Paul Wall

The Peoples Champ" Paul Wall is testament to staying on your grind. DJ, MC, Businessman, Paul Wall has made his hustling mantra "Get Money, Stay True."  The slogan has been wiht him for years. It serves as a constant reminder that he has to hustle and dont settle for nothign less than the best. Paul sums the slogan up as, "I get money, Im on my grind , I stay true, Im staying true to my fans, styaing true to my music, staying loyal to the team." It seems Paul has all the ingredients needed to make thigns happen. His rap are just as blinged out as his grills, an item he doesnt leave home without. Along with his partner Johnny Dang aka TV Johnny, they have made the grill a must have piece of jewelry. "The grills is soemthing that jsut fell in my lap and I jsut pursued. I got with Johnny Dang and we started comig up with creative adn innovative ways to make grills." The two have taken their business to the web and you can find the latest designs at www.grillsbypaulwall.com.

As a member of 'Expensive Taste' along with drummer Travis Barker and Skater Rob Aston, he's out to make his mark on music and fashion. Though not quite ready to be a CEO,he has no problem makign sure bsuines getsd handled. For now he is enjoying beign an artist and entreprenuer. His work ethic is the key to his success allowing him to maintain his consistancy. Paul has a stick to the srcipt mentality, "If it aint broke, dont fix, you know, give people what they want. The same thaing the fell in love wiht when they became a Paul Wall fan, bedcame a fan of my music." Depsite his growign fan base, Paul is himself an admireing of other Houston rappers.

Texas rap musci is deep in history and pride. The Loen star state is mostly knwo for its brand of screwed and chopped music made popular by DJ Screw. "He defined it what it is, Texas Hip Hop, screwed and chop thats the majority of Texas music right there." DJ Screw was an ealry influence on Paul and many other of Houstons young generation oif artists. In Pauls opinion Dj Screw put out some the best rappers ever to ge ton a mic such as Lil Keke whom. Paul says made him want to do rap music.

The souths dominance on the rpa scene gave listeners a front row seat intot he lives of rappers liek paul Wall and put Houston, TX on the map. But that once empty void is now a really crowded place. With so many artists out now its hard to remember the yearws when the East adn West reigned supreme. Paul Wall gavew is insihgt on how the tabel s turned and the Soth became the leader of the pack. "I think that just being theat teh majority of the record labels, whre in New York, LA, so thats whre a majority of the record label artists whre froim yuou know form California and the East coast. So in the sout its a lot of independent rap,  so its a lot of rappers building a career, building a name for themselve on the independent route. So it was jsut a matter of time before different artists made a big enough name for themselves and got the attention of the major artists and record labels."

Though he is known for his signature southern rap flow, Paul Walls first love is the turnatables. As a DJ he enjoys the energy of movign the crowd. For Paul rapping was jsut one of the thign he did to past the time. "Rappign was jsut soemthign we did. We was in school freestyling." What started out as a favortie past tiem soon grew into a serious chance to make it a way of life. "It was something I was just doing for fun, then we started to make money off it and it jsut made me want to do it more full time, pursue it as a career you know."

. "I didnt know, I had no idea I'd take it this far. Im thankign god for wher Im at right now,  now that Im here at this poitn I never really imagined that I could even travel further." Whether he realized it or not Paul Wall was going places. His travels have taken him all over the US, Europe and parts of Africa. Paul gets love wherever he goes. He lists London and Germany of some of his favorite places but says Africa had the deepest impact on him overall. "It was a lot fo fun doing that man, it was incredibel man jsut seeing how people lived over there, and she how different it was, it really made me realize how much we take things for granted you know. It inspired me to want to make a change. Inspired me to jsut want to get on my grind and just do my thing."
